I met with a client today who was complaining that she just doesn’t seem to get the respect she deserves when she speaks. She’s in a very high position, but people don’t seem to take her seriously.
We discovered the reason: she uses “young” informal speech in formal business settings. This is taking away from her authority in her work.

Words are part of how we transmit a message. Using words as they are meant
to be used demonstrates clarity of thought, powerful purpose and unwavering
commitment. Using low language tends to dilute our message. Lack of
precision allows for ambiguities and facilitates lack of commitment. “Oh,
that wasn’t what I meant” could rear its head any time, allowing the one
saying it to evade the consequences of failing to do what he said he would
